Foxboro I/A - Ethernet Connection

Summary

I/A-Ethernet uses standard TCP/IP software to provide reliable communications between a Foxboro I/A 50 Series Application Processor, AP or AW (Sun Solaris) and the RTX Gateway PC.

Operational Features

Transfer ASCII or binary files between systems.
Send and initiate UNIX scripts on process computers. These may in turn execute UNIX programs or create data files for transfer back to the RTX Gateway PC.
Automatic recovery after a reboot of either the process computer or the RTX Gateway PC.
Customer can use connection to perform custom tasks (backup of critical system files)

Benefits

Data transferred at network speeds 10 or 100 Megabits per second (depends on Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in SPARC station and RTX Gateway PC).
Ability to tell when process computer has completed execution of a script
Ability to "Time-Out" if script on process computer runs for too long.

Note: The RTX Gateway PC may be configured as either a client or server for Sun-NFS or SAMBA–SMB. Alternatively the RTXHDB Data Server may be configured as a client or server for Sun-NFS or SAMBA-SMB. In this configuration the RTX Gateway PC needs only the regular Microsoft or Novell client software installed (depending on the type of RTXHDB Data Server).
