Summary

FOXCOM is a mature, field proven software package that provides efficient and reliable asynchronous data communications between a Foxboro 1/A and/ or I/A process computer and a PC.

Operational Features

• All FOXCOM functions are initiated and controlled from the PC using either batch or menu mode
• FOXCOM transfers both ASCII and binary files in either direction between the process computer and the PC
• The user can initiate execution of programs on the process computer from the PC
• User configuration of FOXCOM is easily performed on the PC using menus

Data Transfer Rates

• Line transfer rates from 300 to 9600 baud
• Run-length data compression improves effective transfer rates

Error Detection

• Two-byte CRC
• All detected errors trigger automatic retires

Protocol

• RTX FOXCOM protocol

File Transfer Procedure

(1) The PC sends a start-of-transaction message to the process computer. This message includes:

• File name
• Error detection mode
• Data compression options

(2) The file is sent in packets. Each packet contains a check sum.

(3) The receiver acknowledges each packet. Negative acknowledgement contains error information. All recoverable errors trigger retransmission of the packet.

(4) The PC logs all fatal errors.
